Under 18 women's rugby
HUNGARY'S under 18 women's rugby team warmed up for their trip to the UK's Wooden Spoon National School Sevens competition they play for the first time today (Thursday, Mar 23) - at the Move One 7's Rugby Tournament and Training Camp at Székesfehérvár.
Playing against Dunaújváros College and teams from Austria, Croatia and Romania, the U18s did well to finish third.
Although there was a heavy 43:0 loss to Romania, the defeat to Austria (pictured)was closer at 34:7.
Dunaújváros was beaten 15:5 in the national team's opening game, but the real highlight was a low-scoring 5:0 victory over Croatia, the first time the Hungarian girls have beaten their neighbors.
Coach Ferenc Gyolcsos was delighted with the efforts of his charges.
"I am very proud of the girls.
We have a long way to go, and the girls are very eager to maintain our goals," he said.
"We are facing a quality tournament in the Wooden Spoon with 40 teams to beat. It is the biggest test the girls ever had. "After the England trip we're having one more tournament in Székesfehérvár against Austria and Croatia, and we're planning a trip to an Austrian tournament, and the Munich rugby parade on Oktoberfest," the coach added.
All accommodation, transportation, insurance and registration fees for the Wooden Spoon tournament are being sponsored by Budapest-based Move One International Movers, who also sponsored the warm up tournament and the squad's rugby shirts.
